Every year, on December 9th, we will celebrate World Green Science Day(WGSD) to raise awareness of the role of Science in sustainable societies. This year'sWGSD theme was “Green Science for and with Society.”
Organizers and collaborators of the first World Green Science Day (WGSD) 2022
The organizers had attempted to support crucial international scientific collaborations and bring several topics in Science, climate, biodiversity, economy, food security, people's well-being, and health closer to society. Around two thousand people followed the event online through the live broadcast in Baidu.

This celebration was one of a series that reached out to schools, universities, the general public, and the private sector, among other groups. The goal was to improve the overall knowledge, skills, and resilience related to people's engagement in climate change action, biodiversity protection, and green development through Science and Technology.
This year, the WGSD gathered experts from different countries, including Pakistan, China, Colombia, Mexico, Iran, Bolivia, Benin, France, and Brazil. The invited guests and topics are as follows.
The Quantum Leap in the Green Actions (QLGA) equation
Through the participation of every speaker, we understood the importance of small actions that can produce a significant impact. Some time ago our multidisciplinary team presented the equation that describes this phenomenon:
A closer view of the Equation shows that a significant effect can only be achieved in two ways: engaging plenty of people in single actions or engaging some people in many actions. The most reasonable way to solve this dilemma is to involve plenty of people in a single action. This can be achieved in several ways, and during the WGSD celebration, we were able to hear about those through each one of the speaker’s presentations. The QLGA equation can serve as an indicator of the effect of humans' actions because it quantifies or translates actions into numbers, and those numbers can help us to measure the impact of people’s actions.
With the use of the QLGA, we engage the public in a broader sustainability mission, which offers an opportunity to impact society in general, promote commitment to action against climate change, and promote biodiversity conservation and green development. All these efforts will be part of the newly established "International Green Science Academy Network" (IGSAN), the South-South Biodiversity Science Project, and the Science Culture Construction that are shaping how to work towards a nature-positive world.
