Rosalia Vargas

President of Ciência Viva

Rosalia Vargas is the President of Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, Portugal, and Director of Pavilion of Knowledge, the Lisbon Science Centre. Since 1996, she has been leading the creation of a network of science centers in Portugal, currently with 20 members. Elected City Councilor for Education, Youth and Culture at Lisbon City Hall (2007 – 2009). President of Ecsite – European Network of Museums and Science Centers, Brussels (2013-2015) and board member of ASTC – Association of Science Technology Centers, based in Washington DC (2016-2022).

Her academic and professional development covers Education, Media Studies, Political Governance, and Scientific and Technological Culture. Commander of the Order of Public Instruction by the President of the Portuguese Republic (2004); Seeds of Science award by national magazine Ciência Hoje (Science Today (2007), Professional of the Year Award, Lisbon Rotary Club (2015); Gender Equality Award, for women in science (2016).
