To better help the creators make excellent popular science videos, the contest organizer also holds a series of popular science video training sessions. Trainers for the sessions are outstanding video creators from Zhihu, well-known popular science experts and professional scholars. They gave a series of online training sessions for creators of different levels, such as primary level and advanced level, to lead your way to become an expert creator of popular science videos.
Several online training sessions have already been released. To help creators have better and quick understanding of the skills of making popular science videos, the organizer invited popular science writer Wang Jie, experienced editing respondent “Canned Human”, psychology respondent “Yangli Notes” and others to teach online, covering the shooting, producing, editing, creative planning and other aspects of video making. All the training videos are subtitled in both Chinese and English for the convenience of both domestic and foreign video creators to learn and use.
Wang Jie, a popular science writer and lecturer of the Contest, said in his sharing that “popular science video is a branch of video creation, and the basic skills of different video creation are similar”. Scripts are crucial in video creation, which determines the framework, construction and story line of the whole video. And then comes the learning of scene arrangement and prop application. After determining the video script, the scenes can be arranged according to the script, and props can be used to support the video shooting. Editing is also an important component of the training sessions, which is the core of a video and determines the quality of the final presentation of the video.
The Contest collects works from popular science enthusiasts all over the world. The Secretariat of the World Organization for Science Literacy (Preparatory), in collaboration with its several member organizations, will participate in the contest to promote international exchanges in the creation of popular science works and to improve public science literacy.
